Vocational Training Program

Students in the science training program

Students in the science training program follow the material on tablets, with guidance from their teacher.

In addition to providing college scholarships, the foundation also offers training to those who need help completing their academic studies or who seek career training.

In August 2016, the foundation built a state-of-the-art vocational training center in Makurdi in Benue State, Nigeria. It features three separate training areas:

Fashion & Design Training

Local interest in fashion and design for women is high. For this reason, the foundation began training six students on sewing and weaving in January 2016. Industrial machines, both electric and manual, have been provided for this. Training in men’s fashion, Tinko and embroidery will also be added in the future.

Students: Six students will each be trained for one year. Upon completion, they will receive a brand new sewing machine and a certificate to support their careers.

Schedule: Program will begin in January of each year and will train students for one year.

Computer Training

One of the newest programs to be added at the center is the computer training program. This program’s goal is to improve computer literacy in the community and among youth. To that end, the modern classroom has been equipped with five new HP personal computers, as well as a 3-in-1 printer/scanner/fax machine.

Students: Six students will receive six months of training on programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and others. Students who show high aptitude and enthusiasm will be offered another six months in computer engineering and graphic design. The program will be offered to eligible high school and university students.

Schedule: Training will run from 9am to 1pm, Monday through Friday for six months or up to one year, depending on the student’s aptitude and interest.

Science Education

This program will work to improve science skills among high school students. Many Form V (11th grade) students are ill prepared for their final year and science exam in high school. In fact, many turn to “Miracle Centers,” where cheating is the norm, and use these centers to pass their tests.

At the Tanimu Foundation center, they can strengthen their skills before taking tests in physics, biology, chemistry and math. They will use new equipment, including six Samsung Galaxy tablets for the students and an HP laptop for the instructor.

Students: Six Form V (11th grade) students  are eligible to take this program, which will help them prepare for their final year in high school or secondary school.

Schedule: This one-year program will offer two-hour lectures, three days a week from 3 to 5pm.
